Yesterday’s Man, Boris Johnson, is attempting to thwart the efforts of Rishi Sunak to resolve Johnson’s own botched efforts to “get Brexit done”.
The claim was that Brexit was about taking back control, yet there were over 40,000 migrants arriving on our shores by boat last year. Food and labour shortages add further to the uncertainty. So much for taking back control!
Growth was promised, but growth needs plenty of additional skilled workers, and we have just an ageing population. This Tory government simply do not understand basic economic realities.
The emerging toxic inadequacies of Boris Johnson’s former cabinet, like Raab, Williamson and Patel for bullying, Zahawi for failure to pay taxes, and now the revelations about Hancock, all show just how ineffective and idle Johnson was as a manager and a prime minister!
Johnson felt he needed a prime minister’s salary PLUS an £800,000 loan guarantee – a million pounds a year! How many other children and mistresses has Boris Johnson got? How many rolls of gold wallpaper does Carrie need?
Johnson was forced to resign over Partygate – now being described by a Johnson ally as “just soggy sandwiches and a slice of birthday cake”. Yet Johnson’s government gave police officers their marching orders to enforce lockdown measures, days before Number 10 staff held a party in Downing Street. It was claimed by Johnson’s government that the police operated independently, but the recent leaked messages reveal that senior police officers were hauled into Number 10 and told they must be stricter with the public.
An Eton College a master reported that even then the young Boris Johnson felt that he was ‘special’ and that rules and requirements did not apply to him. The so-called “soggy sandwiches and slice of cake” in reality reveals blatant flouting of his own laws by Johnson, social mixing in close proximity, when the rest of us were not even allowed to see dying relatives. A double standard enforced by the police. Them and us – strict laws for the mere plebs, while the self-regarding elite have the freedom to do as they wish, above the law!
In 2019 Johnson was the hero of the Tories when he won an 80 seat majority in the general election. But as Max Hastings noted at the time of Johnson’s resignation in July 2022, the only possible Labour leader whom Johnson could have defeated in a general election was Jeremy Corbyn.
“If the opposition was led by anyone else, the Tories would be deservedly doomed.”
Hastings goes on condemn Johnson’s corruption:
“Britain is not a very corrupt country by global standards, but Johnson has made it more so by his favoritism toward cronies — conferring state honors on fat cats whose only credentials are that they entertain the prime minister and his family.”
Now, Johnson is set on stirring up more Tory infighting, making it more certain that the Tory party is even less electable, whilst in the meantime he tours the world making money from his glib, empty sound bites.
While ordinary people struggle with heating and food bills, Johnson lives a life of luxury from speaking and writing, trading on the imaginary “successes” of his time as prime minister. To quote Max Hastings again:
“Johnson … has done little during his three-year premiership … that has not been common, mean or both”
This week Johnson has nominated his father Stanley Johnson for a knighthood! In 2020 he had handed a peerage to his brother, Jo Johnson, who is now Lord Johnson of Marylebone! Is this systematic nepotism?
Cynically Johnson is deliberately adding to the toxic political environment by trying to cause trouble for the present incumbent of Number 10, who is attempting to clear up the mess left by the indolent Johnson! Too idle to put in the effort and commitment to resolve the unfinished Brexit mess, he is now intent on hampering efforts to sort it out!
