One might forgive our Prime Minister for lapsing into ‘Estuary’ language, but mistaking ‘Essex’ for ‘Ethics’ is unacceptable. But this seems to be what’s happened. With all the questions around the conduct of his ministers and MPs, Sunak has not stood up to his appointment promise that he would lead with “integrity, professionalism and accountability”.
First if all he delayed in sacking Nadhim Zahawi for tax irregularities. Then he failed get rid of Dominic Raab despite multiple claims of bullying. Now he’s still to decide what to do about the appointment of Richard Sharp as BBC Chair after helping Boris Johnson secure a loan guarantee.
All these issues would have been nipped in the bud by anyone with a grasp of ‘Ethics’.
Maybe he just doesn’t get it!
