When a US congressman described Nigel Farage as a Trump sycophant and wannabe, he was absolutely correct.
Farage has no ideas of his own, he just steals from his idol Trump. He wants to be Britain’s own mini-Trump. He wants us to copy the failed Trump strategies which are driving the US economy into deep recession.
Even in Florida where Trump lives, his drive to round up migrants and deport them is already dislocating the state’s economy. Florida is dependent on agriculture and desperately needs cheap labour to pick its fruit and harvest its vegetables.
Predictably, thanks to Donald Trump, that labour has now gone. So what did the Republicans in the Florida legislature seek to do? Bring in local teenagers to pick the fruit, breaking child protection laws! They wanted to take the poor children out of school to remedy the problem the Republicans had created.

But copying Trump also threatens our democracy. What are Trump, Farage and JD Vance so frightened off? Free speech that might criticise them, hurt their delicate egos and reveal their deep hypocrisy? That their limited and repetitive themes of hate and fear, that they seek to feed on, are both irrelevant and destructive?
Farage talks of deporting people. Will he send in the army if Brits protest when their communities are targeted and innocent people abducted?
We have seen the effects of Trump’s destructive policies. Merely aping and echoing Trump’s mistakes will not cut it, Farage.
Is Farage really that short of ideas? Or are his puppet masters just pulling his strings?
