Over the last three years West England Bylines has published over 800 articles on topics ranging from Brexit and its disastrous consequences, to our ignoring of the climate emergency and to our powerlessness to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Recently we’ve started logging all the sewage pollution events and issues with England’s water industry in our ‘Sewage Watch’.
Our 135 writers have provided us with breaking news and informed opinion. As editor I’ve learned a lot about subjects totally new to me. I’ve been ably abetted by Peter Burke my co-editor who has also, with his insider knowledge as a GP and BMA member, contributed articles on the health service.
Our Social Media team headed by Barbara Morrison and Claire Jones have spread the word on Facebook, Twitter and other channels. Barbara has contributed scathing articles on the state of our health and social services; Claire’s articles have focussed on Partygate, UK strikes, Compass and the Labour Party. Julian Greenbank has provided us with a constant stream of videos mostly on his beloved Bristol. Paul Ryder has been our most prolific writer with spoof interviews and reminiscences. Dr Helmut Hubel has given us valuable insight into the Ukraine conflict and the mind of Vladimir Putin. Bob Copeland writes about human rights and today’s socialism. Hadrian Cook’s articles on the environment are thought provoking. Jim Price has treated us to his Argentinian and Mexican experiences.
To these and all our other writers, many thanks for making West England Bylines a force for good and an interesting read.
As we look forward to our 4th year, we want more folk to join us: writers, editors, social media people and other helpers. We are reaching out to local community groups Drop Jon an email – [email protected]
