At West England Bylines we believe that it is vitally important to share the experiences of ordinary Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. Here is the third in our series of re-published poems by Palestinian children.
We are very grateful to the The Hands Up Project for giving us permission to share these poems with our readers. The Hands Up Project is an organisation devoted to connecting young Palestinian people with children around the world. Using drama, poetry and story-telling, the project provides opportunities for shared self-expression, creativity and mutual understanding between children who are traumatised by war.
The title poem by Ahmad Kuhail is from the projects’ collection ‘Oh Big Blue‘.

We are unable to tell you more about the contributors included here as the decimation of Gaza prevents our contact from acquiring further information about their present circumstances or whether they are still alive.
We only know that Ahmad, who wrote the title poem, was recently forced to leave his house in the north of Gaza because it was destroyed. He and his family had to flee to the south where they are now living in one room. Aside from this information, their current situation is not known.
