The Jolly Hog has been awarded B Corp status for practices benefitting the community as well as shareholders – becoming the first UK meat company to be certified.
The Bristol-born brand joins a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit. B-Corp, a certification which is recognised as the highest standard for social corporate responsibility, has awarded the status to just 5,575 businesses worldwide.
The Jolly Hog was founded back in 2007, by three brothers – a rugby player, a ship broker, and a cabinet maker.
An independent family run business from Bristol with a focus on creating moments of joy through jolly good food, The Jolly Hog ethos has always been about quality, the quality of products, ingredients, and standards.
Only using prime cuts of British, Outdoor Bred pork for sausages and bacon and demanding a high level of animal welfare, only sourcing pork from RSPCA assured farms.
It’s been the mission to provide honest and tasty food, with 13 Great Taste Award stars gained in 2022.
Although it all began with the humble sausage, The Jolly Hog has since branched out and expanded the range to 14 products including chicken sausages, pulled pork, ham and scotch eggs. The products can be found in Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose, Asda, Co-op and Ocado.
“This feels like a real milestone for The Jolly Hog. When we first thought about applying four years ago, it felt like a natural fit for us to help shape the way we run our business.
“Max, Josh and I are extremely proud to become the UK’s first meat business to be certified B Corp. As a family company based in Bristol, it’s always been deeply ingrained in us to be doing the right thing by our team, our consumers, and our planet.
“This doesn’t mean we are perfect or better than anyone else, it just means that we are genuinely trying to be better as a company for everyone involved.”

About The Jolly Hog:
We strive to be different and unique in our independent approach to being the best tasting outdoor bred products in the market. For people that like sharing Jolly Good Food with people they love. Our meat comes from farms that meet high animal welfare standards. Through our Jolly Good Deeds, we bring moments of joy with food to those that need it most, donating products and our time to help with causes committed to reducing food poverty. Over the next three years, we will be reducing our packaging significantly and we will be in fully recyclable packaging, because quite simply that’s the right thing to do.
