The gallery, situated on Westbury Crescent, Cowley, Oxford, is currently sharing an exhibition by Willow Wenda – Indonesia’s Bloody Secret – which highlights the ongoing genocide and ecocide in West Papua.
Despite the harrowing nature of the subject, the work is ultimately uplifting (and educational) in its demonstration of resistance through profound artistic expression.
The exhibition is open weekdays 5-6pm. On Saturday 18 July, it will be open from 2-8 pm. At 6 pm, all are invited to join in celebrating Cuban culture and resistance in the context of Willow’s exhibition.
This follows directly after an afternoon fund raiser for Cuba at the Confluence Café at St Luke’s Church, Cowley. All attending that are welcome to come to the gallery to continue the singing and dancing. The Westbury Gallery team see the homicidal blockades of Cuba as similar to the oppression inflicted on Gaza and West Papua and are proud to show respect to the cultural vibrancy of all these oppressed cultures.
Please go along if you have the chance. And don’t forget your dancing shoes!
